Charlotte Council defers speed bump decision, receives audit update

At their March 24 meeting, the Charlotte City Council deferred its discussion about speed bumps in the Celeste Heights subdivision until its April meeting.

Charlotte mayor Garland Breeden reported some of the residents of the subdivision started a petition and presented it to him desiring speed bumps to be installed in the neighborhood over concerns for the safety of children playing in the streets.

Breeden noted that some motorists are using Old Columbia Road to avoid the three-way stop at Highways 47 and 48. “There are children up there playing, but [people are] driving too fast and they’re just afraid somebody’s going to get hit or something. Right now, though, we’re still holding as to whether or not we’re actually going to do that because we haven’t heard from all the residents up there…
