Weehawken PD arrest New York couple for roles in multi-state mail theft ring

The Weehawken Police Department arrested a New York couple for their roles in a multi-state mail theft ring last month after an officer observed one of them appear to be stealing from a local mailbox.

On March 23rd, Weehawken Patrolman Joseph Caputi, while on patrol observed a double-parked vehicle opposite the mailbox located at Shippen Street and Hudson Avenue, according to Deputy Police Chief James White.

Since January, the department has received multiple reports of mail stolen from 13 different mailboxes around town. Caputi surveilled the vehicle from a distance and observed a male in dark clothing run from the mailbox and get into a black Honda HR-V.
