Woman sentenced for COVID loan fraud, hiding marriage for benefits

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Chicago woman was sentenced to federal prison for lying to multiple government agencies to collect benefits she wasn’t entitled to receive.

Gladys Louise Stephenson, 48, received a 10-month prison sentence after pleading guilty in October to theft of government property, supplemental security income benefits fraud and false statement or representation.

Between March 2017 and April 2022, Stephenson made false statements to the Social Security Administration to receive benefits. She hid her marital status and living arrangements, specifically that she was married and lived with her spouse…
