MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office says it has responded to multiple incidents at the county courthouse recently involving seizing multiple firearms and illegal substances.
Around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office’s detention officers found marijuana and cocaine hidden around the exterior of the courthouse during a perimeter check. Officials say no one was charged in this incident, and there were no safety concerns.
On Tuesday, April 14, around 10 a.m., armed detention officers were called to a report of an unattended bag located outside the courthouse. Officers discovered a semi-automatic handgun inside the bag, along with a pocketknife, a lighter, and ammunition. A deputy rendered the weapon secure and conducted a records check. The owner of the bag later returned and was cited for carrying a concealed weapon, in violation of NC law G.S. 14-269a.
Later that day, around 1:30 p.m., a deputy found another firearm during a security screening. The semi-automatic Ruger .380 pistol was located inside a visitor’s purse at the courthouse checkpoint…
