Defense attorney tells jury man shot at group of kids but isn’t guilty of attempted murder

Syracuse, N.Y. ― A Syracuse defense attorney told a jury Wednesday his 19-year-old client has committed crimes and should be held accountable — but not for the charges he faces stemming from a 2024 shooting.

Nakise Elliott, of Syracuse, is on trial, charged with five counts of attempted murder, two counts of second-degree assault and one count of criminal possession of a weapon. He is accused of firing five shots including the three that hit children.

Elliott’s attorney, Shaun Chase, is not contesting that Elliott rode up to the intersection of Knaul Street and Hier Avenue around 8:40 p.m. on June 23, 2024, and opened fire…
