Johnson County now has its very own roller skating rink! Glide & Go Skate City has officially opened its doors in the Iowa City Marketplace!
About Glide & Go
Glide & Go Skate Cityis a new roller skating rink that opened last month (March) in the 27,000-square foot building at 1676 Sycamore St in Iowa City, the former home of JoAnn Fabrics. When we first found out about the new business in August of 2025, it was announced that they expected to start welcoming customers in January of 2026. Unfortunately, the opening ended up being delayed a few months. According to the Daily Iowan, owner Alicia Crews said the delay was due to “personal family issues and the building’s fire code compliance.”
Despite the setback, Glide & Go was able to have their official opening back on March 13th, and their weekly schedule has continued to evolve as they continue their “soft launch” period. The skate floor is open and skate rentals are now available, and there are several events and skate camps already on the calendar for the coming weeks. The space will also be available to book for private parties and events.
