(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — The City of Manitou Springs is warning homeowners of a new scam where people are apparently impersonating the City or the fire department and attempting to sell fire mitigation work.
“It has come to the City’s attention that there are individuals roaming Manitou neighborhoods impersonating the City or fire department — or claiming that there have been changes to state or county wildfire codes — and are attempting to sell “fire mitigation work” under these false pretenses,” according to the press release sent on Thursday, April 16.
Wildfire mitigation is not required or mandatory, according to the City, which stated that “…anyone claiming residents will be fined or otherwise penalized for not doing so is attempting to mislead them.”…
