Kentucky Derby human trafficking survivor returns to Churchill Downs to help others escape

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Kentucky Derby brings crowds, celebration, and global attention to Louisville each year, but advocates warn it also creates conditions that allow human trafficking to increase.

Human trafficking is defined by the Kentucky Statewide Human Trafficking Task Force as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel an adult or minor to perform labor or engage in a commercial sex act.

According to Louisville’s FOX affiliate, WDRB, Summer Dickerson was only 20 years old when she was trafficked in Louisville during Derby weekend. She said a wealthy client bought her and brought her to Millionaire’s Row.

“When we got into that limo, for this particular client, it wasn’t about sex,” Dickerson told WDRB. “It was about power and control.”…
