MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The City of Memphis has filed a motion asking a judge for more time in the civil lawsuit brought by RowVaughn Wells in the death of her son, Tyre Nichols, arguing that newly disclosed information has significantly altered the case.
The motion, filed Monday, April 13, asks the court for an extension because the plaintiff recently disclosed new witnesses, additional expert testimony, and a previously undisclosed independent autopsy of Nichols performed in 2023.
City attorneys argue those developments “fundamentally alter the calculus” of the case’s established timeline and require time for additional discovery, writing, “The current schedule simply does not afford the City adequate time to perform this work.”…
