LAS VEGAS (FOX5) —An 81-year-old teacher in the special education department walked into the Cheyenne High School gym and was met with a surprise sendoff before his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He is scheduled to leave Friday morning to tour war memorials with other local Vietnam and Korean War veterans.
The Vietnam veteran walked on a red carpet to speak. He was met by a marching band, cheerleaders and other students, who showed their appreciation for his service in the 1960s during the Vietnam War.
“Profound feelings, deep emotional feelings to be welcomed this way,” Upchurch said.
Teacher to serve as guardian on trip
Marquita Hobson, who teaches English 12 at Cheyenne High, will serve as Upchurch’s guardian on the Honor Flight trip. She will be with him at all times as he sees memorials…
