Student injured after falling out of moving school bus in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A student at the Academy for Discovery at Lakewood fell out of a moving school bus and was injured, according to a letter Norfolk Public Schools sent to families Thursday night. The incident occurred after the student, who was reportedly hopping across seats, was thrown against the bus’s rear door handle during a turn.

The student was transported by ambulance to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for care, with parental permission, the letter states. Norfolk Public Schools confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

The email from Principal Romanda Hannigan said the focus is on the student’s well-being. “At this time, we are focused on the student’s care and well-being,” Hannigan said. “We take the safety of all students very seriously and are reviewing this matter thoroughly.”…
