Woman, teen arrested for organized theft after trying to steal over $2K worth of merchandise

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart, according to court records.

Shaniya Sherrill Mushat and a juvenile were stopped Thursday around 9 p.m. at the Walmart in the 800 block of Ann Street while allegedly trying to steal $2,278.77 worth of items.

A loss prevention officer caught the suspects in the act and contacted authorities, identifying Mushat and the teen girl as the suspects. A third suspect, later identified as Jakayla Smith, fled on foot.

Mushat and the juvenile were taken into custody. Both admitted to authorities that they were stealing the items to resell on someone else’s orders, according to court records…
