A landmark home designed by I.M. Pei at 1400 Shady Oaks Lane in Westover Hills is heading to market with a reported $22 million price tag. The approximately 19,000-square-foot estate sits on four acres in one of North Texas’ most private enclaves, but for Fort Worth, the story is just as much about the family behind it.

The House That ‘Big Anne’ Built

The home was commissioned in 1969 by Fort Worth oil heiress Anne Burnett Tandy — often called “Miss Anne” or “Big Anne” — and her husband, Charles Tandy.

Anne Burnett came from one of Texas’ most storied families, the granddaughter of ranching magnate Samuel Burk Burnett. (Yes, Burkburnett, TX carries his name.) Anne grew up on her family’s west Texas ranch and eventually inherited the legendary 6666 Ranch, which was sold five years ago to representatives of Taylor Sheridan.

Charles, a TCU graduate who later attended Harvard Business School and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, built a business empire that grew from a leathercraft company into Tandy Corp., a retail powerhouse that grew to include RadioShack, Pier 1 Imports, and other national brands…
