Man obviously trying to hide vehicle’s license plate arrested at Pilot Travel Center

A Pierson man was arrested after being stopped at the Pilot Travel Center in an unregistered vehicle with a suspended license.

A deputy observed a gray 2000 Toyota Sienna parked at a gas pump in the Pilot Travel Center parking lot, located at 744 SR 44, Wildwood, around 9:35 a.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Two bicycles mounted to the back of the vehicle blocked the tag, making it unreadable. He then saw 50-year-old Gerald Lee Molner get in the driver’s seat.

He proceeded to drive to the east end of the parking lot, where he backed into a spot in an apparent attempt to hide the tag information. The deputy stopped him for this and requested his license, registration and insurance. He also walked to the back of the vehicle to take a closer look at the tag’s information, the report said.

Running what he found through dispatch determined the tag was not assigned to the vehicle. It was assigned to another one, but that expired on Sept. 26, 2024. The VIN had also expired on Feb. 19, 2024. It seemed the vehicle had not been registered in the state since 2024, the report said…
