These rules will be used in Corpus Christi mayor’s removal hearing

City officials preparing for a removal hearing of Mayor Paulette Guajardo will be largely relying on rules used in Corpus Christi’s most recent removal hearing nearly 40 years ago.

That hearing, held in 1987, led to the removal of then-City Councilman Frank Mendez.

Divided up into eight sections — topics covered to include admission of evidence, cross-examination and burden of proof — the rules were adopted by the City Council on April 14 as part of moving forward with the hearing, prompted by a citizen-submitted petition…
