32-hour closure on Martin Luther King Blvd starts Saturday

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Texas Department of Transportation has released a list of road closures for the week of April 17, 2026, that may affect your commute, including a 32-hour closure of all lanes on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Northeast El Paso.

Borderland Expressway Phase 2 Project

Beginning at 4 a.m., Saturday, April 18 – 12 p.m. Sunday, April 19 (32-hour closure)

  • Martin Luther King (FM-3255) north and southbound between Loma Real and O-Hara (NM-404) full roadway closure.
  • Local traffic will access businesses and residences between O’Hara (NM-404) and TX/NM State Line.

Detour: Traffic will use NM-404 (O’Hara Rd.), IH-10, LP-375 (Woodrow Bean/Transmountain) and US-54.

  • Stan Roberts (FM-2529) between McCombs and Martin Luther King (FM-3255) full roadway closure.
  • Access to El Paso Electric Newman Power Plant will be available via McCombs and Stan Roberts intersection.

Crews will be working on a traffic switch to allow for construction of Martin Luther King (FM-3255) new road configuration.

Monday, April 20 – Friday, April 24, daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • US-54 east and westbound between Mesquite Hills and McCombs alternate lane closures.
  • Mesquite Hills reduced to one lane between US-54 and Red Man. Flaggers will be on-site directing traffic as needed for haul trucks crossing Mesquite Hills.
  • Flaggers will be on site directing traffic as needed for haul trucks crossing at McCombs and Stan Roberts intersection.

Crews will be transporting earth embankment into the project.

Road Repair

Sunday, April 19, from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • I-10 eastbound at Cotton three left lanes closed

Monday, April 20 – Thursday, April 23, nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • I-10 eastbound between Copia and Airway alternate lane closures

I-10 Widening West Phase 2

Tuesday, April 21 (full closure), from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • North Desert between I-10 westbound Transmountain entrance ramp and Vinton exit ramp closed.

Detour: Take I-10 westbound Transmountain entrance ramp, exit at Vinton.

Crews will be moving concrete traffic barriers and guardrail repairs…
