- Justin Bieber needs to do one main thing to avoid more Coachella backlash, expert says (themirror.com)
Justin Bieber’s much-anticipated Coachella headlining debut during the festival’s opening weekend on April 11 fell short of expectations, leaving many fans and critics underwhelmed.
The pop star’s stripped-down set, featuring casual attire like a hoodie, shorts, and sunglasses, was widely described as “lazy” by attendees and observers. Despite the minimalist approach, Bieber’s dedicated fanbase-known as Beliebers-were eager to see him perform, especially given the hefty $10 million payday he secured for the appearance.
Tickets for the event had sold out nearly seven months in advance, underscoring the high anticipation. Still, many felt the performance lacked energy and excitement, labeling it as “boring.”
In the days following the backlash, speculation has mounted about whether Bieber, 32, plans to deliver a more dynamic show during Coachella’s second weekend, scheduled for April 17 to 19.
Kate Morgan, a public relations expert and founder of Morgan Publicity, shared her insights with The Mirror US on how Bieber might turn things around. “From a PR standpoint, I’d expect a controlled and intentional rollout leading into weekend two,” Morgan said.
“This could involve strategic social media teases, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage, and influencer or celebrity support to rebuild excitement.” She emphasized the importance of a precise approach aimed at shifting the narrative from disappointment to anticipation.
Morgan also advised against over-correcting the initial performance. “The key to bouncing back is confidence and forward momentum.
The narrative should become, ‘Watch what happens next!’” she noted, adding that letting Bieber’s raw talent shine without excessive theatrics was, in her view, a strong move.
To overshadow the lukewarm reception of weekend one, Morgan suggested Bieber focus on delivering a standout performance that highlights the qualities fans originally fell in love with: powerful vocals and intimate, engaging moments. Additionally, creating shareable, viral moments during the set could help redirect conversations positively in real time, a critical factor in today’s fast-moving media environment.
Bieber is set to headline on Saturday, April 18, alongside other notable acts like Addison Rae, The Strokes, and GIVEON. With the spotlight back on him, all eyes will be on whether he can redeem his Coachella run and recapture the festival’s enthusiasm.
