Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.
Here at Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno (LRRF), we strive to leave no Labrador behind. We frequently take in injured or ill Labradors, and do whatever it takes to get them the veterinary care they need to thrive. Our dear adoptable Riley is a prime example of how quality medical care and love can change a dog’s life! Riley came into a local high-kill shelter with many old wounds and sores, and was in pretty rough shape. Luckily, the shelter knew who to call, and we quickly got Riley into a foster home and to the vet for much-needed medical care. It turns out, poor Riley had an old hip fracture that was never treated which was causing him a lot of pain, so we got him the hip surgery he desperately needed to live an active life again. He is now fully recovered, back to playing fetch and ready to find his forever family!
Riley is a gorgeous hunk of yellow Labrador, with a heart of gold to match. He is a big fella at 100 pounds, but that just means there is more of him to cuddle! Riley is at a perfect stage of life, past the wild puppy stage, but still loves a nice daily stroll around the neighborhood with his family. He adores people and has that classic outgoing friendly Labrador personality. He enjoys the company of dogs, horses, and other livestock, but his cat-compatibility is unknown. He is a well-mannered companion with excellent house manners and is trustworthy to be alone in the house unattended. He is excellent with young children and will make a fabulous family dog. He is a true gentle giant. He is fully recovered from his hip surgery and requires no extra care or medication. If you have a soft spot on your couch and a heart looking for a very special love, apply to make Riley a member of your family at labrescuefresno.org!
Riley is just one of the many amazing dogs looking for their forever families. The past few years have been really tough, as shelters and rescues have been inundated with dogs of all ages in need of families and adoption rates have been on the decline. Sadly, 2026 is more of the same. We are overwhelmed and desperately need all the help we can get! We understand that not everyone is able to provide a permanent home for a dog, but there are still many ways you can help dogs in need in your community.
Not in a place to permanently adopt a Labrador, but still want to help out? Consider fostering! Fostering is the vital stepping stone to get a dog from homelessness to their forever family and provides an extremely rewarding experience. There is nothing like watching a scared dog learn to trust and love again and blossom into their true selves. LRRF provides all veterinary care, food, and supplies for foster dogs; however, we do ask that you live within an hour or so drive of Fresno in order to take your foster dog to our vet as needed. Please apply to foster at: labrescuefresno.org/become-a-foster/foster-application
Not ready to foster, but still want to help? Consider making a tax-deductible donation to LRRF! We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and 100% of all donations go to care for the dogs in our rescue…
