BELTON, Mo. (WDAF) — More than 25 gravestones, some weighing upward of 1,000 pounds, were toppled at the Belton cemetery early this morning from damage caused by a tornado.
The Belton cemetery, which is more than 100 years old, holds the graves of more than 5,000 individuals. Among them are more than 1,000 veterans of World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War, as well as 18 Confederate soldiers from the Civil War.
The cemetery is currently closed to the public because of downed trees and live power lines…
