TRACKING: Freeze Watch in effect for Northeast Ohio

(WJW) — You will feel a BIG change in the weather as soon as you step outside on Sunday! It will be a much cooler day, with temperatures only in the mid to upper 40s in the afternoon. Sunday will also be a breezy day, with a sustained northwest wind at 10 to 20 mph. Wind gusts could top 30 mph at times.

A bulk of Sunday will be dry, but scattered rain showers will move through the area late Sunday afternoon/evening. The scattered rain showers could turn into a wintry mix at times Sunday evening and to light lake effect snow showers or snow flurries Sunday night into Monday morning. No snowfall accumulations or travel impacts are expected.

The two coldest nights in the extended forecast will be Sunday night and Monday night. Temperatures will be near or below freezing first thing Monday and Tuesday morning. A FREEZE WATCH has already been issued for all of Northeast Ohio for Sunday night, and more alerts will likely be issued for Monday night as well. Gardeners will want to make sure to protect or bring in their temperature sensitive plants.

Temperatures will struggle to hit 40 degrees in some spots on Monday. Monday will be the coldest day in the extended forecast. This spring chill will not last very long. Temperatures will warm back into the 60s by Tuesday.

The NWS surveyed damage in Trumbull county where they found evidence of 90mph straight-line wind damage from the severe storms on April 15.

Looking back on this weeks severe weather… Interestingly, the hail storm on Wednesday marks the 7th time Cuyahoga County has experienced over two inches of hail since 1950. The most recent time was July 20, 2023.
