MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A man, a woman and a juvenile were arrested Saturday after an alleged attempt to smuggle contraband into Fountain Correctional Facility, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
- Deja Johnson is charged with attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, prohibited activities, first and second degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree possession of marijuana, certain person forbidden to possess a firearm, and chemical endangerment.
- Savion Gilchrist is charged with attempting to commit a controlled substance crime, prohibited activities, first and second degree promoting prison contraband, first-degree possession of marijuana, and certain person forbidden to possess a firearm.
ADOC said a trespasser near the facility triggered a coordinated response involving correctional staff, specialized units and outside law enforcement. The suspect was apprehended by ADOC’s K-9 unit, and Atmore police later stopped a related vehicle, arresting two suspects and recovering two firearms.
During the operation, authorities found a contraband package outside the facility’s perimeter. Correctional staff also confiscated another contraband package from an inmate during a security check. The recovered contraband included about 750 grams of marijuana, 15 cell phones and a knife.
In total, three suspects were taken to custody and transported to the Escambia County Detention Facility. The third suspect is a juvenile and will not be identified. Inmate Justin Hoyle is also facing criminal charges in addition to administrative disciplinary action…
