Houston will dry out Sunday, but here’s when the next round of rain will arrive.

A very strong cold front — at least by April standards  — swept through Southeast Texas on Saturday afternoon, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms, strong winds and a significant drop in temperatures.

Rainfall lasted well into late Saturday night across much of the region. Now, as the front sends drier air into the region on Sunday, rain chances will drop significantly and lead to a beautiful day to spend outdoors. However, another round of potentially heavy rain is expected early this week, and it could result in isolated flooding. Here’s what you can expect.

Sunday’s forecast

You’ll likely want a jacket if you plan to be outside Sunday morning, as temperatures will hover in the mid- to upper 50s through at least 10 a.m. Winds will be gusty too, coming in at around 15 mph with occasional guess to 25 mph likely.

Skies are expected to be mostly cloudy through the morning, and there is a 20% chance of a few lingering showers early on, mainly before 9 a.m. Rain chances will be higher well to the south of Houston, from Lake Jackson to Port Lavaca.

Into the middle of the day, temperatures will rise steadily, reaching the mid-60s by noon before topping out near 70 degrees by the late afternoon – about 10 degrees below average for this time of year. Skies will clear a bit too, becoming partly to mostly sunny by 3 to 4 p.m…
