Alabama Grocery Tax Break Begins May 1

Dothan, Ala. (WDNews) — Alabama shoppers will soon see some relief at the checkout line as the state prepares to temporarily suspend part of its grocery tax.

According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, the state’s 2% sales tax on groceries will be paused for 60 days, beginning May 1 and running through June 30, 2026. The move is aimed at helping families save on everyday food purchases.
