Coronado Theatre’s ornate plasterwork to undergo $600k in repairs

Repairs will require theater’s closure for several weeks

ROCKFORD — The historic Coronado Theatre will undergo a roughly $600,000 restoration of its ornamental plaster and interior decorative features to repair nicks, dings and other signs of aging since its initial revitalization more than a quarter-century ago.

That work is part of an estimated $1.5 million in fixes coming to the nearly 100-year-old theater. The other work includes elevator repairs and several lighting improvements, including fixing broken atmospheric lighting, the proscenium arch over the stage, and the stars that twinkle in auditorium’s deep blue night sky…
