Kuhio Beach Horror 86-Year-Old Man Dies After Waikiki Rescue

An outing at Waikiki’s Kuhio Beach turned tragic Saturday when an 86-year-old man died after being pulled from the water. Bystanders spotted the man unconscious in the lagoon near the outer wall and brought him to lifeguards, who paddled out to help and rushed him back to shore. Lifeguards began CPR while Honolulu Emergency Medical Services crews delivered advanced life support and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Authorities say they do not suspect foul play. The man’s identity has not been released, and an autopsy is planned to determine the cause and manner of death.

Rescue and response

According to KITV, people on the beach first pulled the man from the water near the lagoon’s outer wall and turned him over to Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards. Lifeguards brought him to shore and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
