Untreated Syphilis on the rise in Alabama with no sign of letting up. Here’s why

Alabama has made some improvements in lowering rates of some sexually transmitted diseases over the last three years, according to recent data from the state’s health department.

But cases of one disease have jumped, and are expected to keep rising.

From 2022 to 2025 the rate of late latent Syphilis went up by 58% in the state, according to a report from the Alabama Department of Public Health. That’s an increase from 972 to 1,536 people showing a more advanced stage of the disease which occurs when it goes untreated…
