‘He died in an accident’: Facebook scam aiming to steal your information

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A scam circulating on Facebook uses fake death announcements to trick users into clicking malicious links.

The posts appear to come from friends and include the phrase “he died in an accident” with multiple people you tagged. The posts feature photos of police cars, yellow tape and what appears to be a link to a news story.

Clicking on the link can redirect you to a fake Facebook login page designed to steal passwords or download malware that can infect phones or computers. Once hackers gain access to an account, they use it to send the same message to your friends, spreading the scam further…
