Reported cougar sighting near Dexter ruled out by state biologists. Family disagrees

DEXTER, MI — A Dexter area family remains firm in their belief they spotted a cougar prowling through yards north of town over the weekend.

However, biologists with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) concluded photographs the family submitted show a very large domestic cat instead.

Brian Roell, a large carnivore specialist and wildlife biologist with the DNR, said he and two other biologists reviewed the family’s photographs and all reached the same conclusion…
