Ridgewood mom fatally struck in Bushwick hit-and-run after dropping daughter at school: NYPD

A Ridgewood mother was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver shortly after walking her daughter to school just before 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, according to authorities.

Jenny Maribel Chacho Sánchez, 29, was just a block away from her father’s home on Linden Street, where she was living with her 6-year-old child, and was crossing the street at the intersection of St. Nicholas Avenue and Gates Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn, when she was struck by a 2024 Freightliner box truck in the crosswalk. A 49-year-old man was behind the wheel of the truck traveling northbound on St. Nicholas Avenue and was executing a left turn onto Gates Avenue when he collided with the victim, according to a preliminary investigation. The driver left the scene and made several deliveries before he was pulled over a short distance away, telling cops he didn’t realize he had struck anyone, police said.

Officers from the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the location and found Chacho Sánchez with trauma to her head and body. EMS rushed her to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead a short while later…
