LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– SafeCenter and the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office have launched the county’s first law enforcement soft interview room, designed to provide a safe and comfortable space for victims and survivors of sexual assault and other crimes.
The launch coincides with April, recognized as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
SafeCenter advocates for awareness and crisis intervention efforts in Shiawassee County through its multidisciplinary Sexual Assault Response Team( SART). SART includes advocates, law enforcement, prosecutors, health care personnel and child and adult protection personnel to address and respond to sexual assault cases.
According to the sheriff’s office, the soft interview room is a space that prioritizes psychological safety, comfort and trust for open communication and healing. The design aims to provide a non-triggering environment, allowing individuals to feel supported while discussing sensitive and traumatic experiences.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new space is Monday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office…
