MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Five former officers who were charged in the beating death of Tyre Nichols were removed from a $550 million civil lawsuit filed by Nichols’ family, court documents show.
The court granted Row Vaughn Wells, the mother of Nichols’, request to drop Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Justin Smith from the civil suit.
Wells said she was dismissing the lawsuit in an effort to keep the current trial date of November 9, 2026. If she continued with the suit, she explained that it could ‘likely drag on for years.’…
