Galt police say a routine evening traffic stop turned into a gun arrest on April 18 at about 6:20 p.m., after officers watched a car speeding and making what they describe as an unsafe pass on the right shoulder near a bicycle lane. Inside the vehicle, officers reported finding a loaded short-barreled rifle along with several high-capacity magazines. Two people were taken into custody: the driver, 22-year-old Bunna Beth of Stockton, and a passenger identified as 22-year-old Jesus Valencia Jr. of Stockton. The department says the investigation is active and that no further details will be released at this time.
Police Say Stop Followed Dangerous Lane Pass and Brandishing Report
According to a Facebook post from the Galt Police Department, officers pulled the car over “after observing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and making an unsafe pass on the right shoulder near a bicycle lane.” Dispatch had also been advised of a separate report that a vehicle matching the same description had allegedly brandished a firearm at a family that included three children, the department said.

Short-barreled rifles are regulated under the National Firearms Act and generally require registration with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to the ATF.
