Jay and Silent Bob Are Rolling Into El Paso
The biggest tag team in stoner cinema is coming to the borderland. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, the legendary duo behind Jay and Silent Bob, will both be at EPCON this year. Kevin Smith is a filmmaker, comic book writer, and one of pop culture’s most beloved voices. Jason Mewes has been his hype man, co-star, and best friend for decades. Seeing these two together in person is a bucket list moment for any fan of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, or really any corner of the View Askewniverse. Smith will also be doing a dedicated Q&A panel, and tickets for that are available separately at Tixr (https://www.tixr.com/groups/ziacomics/events/kevin-smith-q-a-panel-156459).
Cheech and Chong Are Also Here, So Yes, This Is Real Life
If one iconic stoner duo were not enough, El Paso Comic Con is also bringing in Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The duo that built an entire comedy empire out of counterculture, cannabis, and sheer charisma will be at the convention center. Whether you know them from their classic albums, their films, or Cheech’s decades of work in TV and film, having both of them in the same room as Jay and Silent Bob is a historic crossover for anyone who loves comedy done right.
The Fire Nation Has Entered El Paso
Avatar: The Last Airbender fans, it is time to lose your minds. Both Dante Basco and Greg Baldwin are on the guest list, and that means the voice of Prince Zuko and the voice of Uncle Iroh will be in the same building. Dante Basco is an absolute icon across generations. Before he was Zuko he was Rufio in Hook, one of the most beloved characters in 90s cinema. He has been a staple of the nerd community for decades, and getting to meet him in person is a genuinely rare opportunity. Greg Baldwin, who took over the role of Uncle Iroh after the late Mako, carried that character with grace and warmth. Together, these two are a dream reunion for anyone who grew up in the Fire Nation era.
Pam Grier Is a Legend and She Will Be in El Paso
There is no other way to say it. Pam Grier is one of the most iconic figures in film history. From her era-defining roles in Coffy and Foxy Brown to her unforgettable performance in Jackie Brown, Grier is a trailblazer who changed what a leading woman in cinema could look like. If you have never seen her work, fix that before May. If you have, you already know why this is a big deal.
Flash Gordon Is Coming to the Convention Center
Sam Jones, the man who played Flash Gordon in the 1980 cult classic, will be at El Paso Comic Con. Flash Gordon is the kind of film that gets better every year, and Sam Jones is the kind of guest who makes conventions memorable. He has also appeared in Ted and Ted 2 as himself, which means he has managed to become a beloved figure across two completely different generations of fans. El Paso, Flash Gordon is going to be standing in our convention center. That is not something you pass up.
Carey Means Is Bringing Frylock to El Paso
Adult Swim fans, this one is for you. Carey Means is the voice of Frylock from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, one of the most legendary animated series in the history of late-night television. ATHF is the kind of show that rewired a generation’s sense of humor, and Frylock is one of its most iconic characters. Getting to meet the voice behind him at a Sun City comic con is the kind of thing you tell people about for years.
Brett Booth Is a Living Legend of the Page
For the comic book collectors and artists in the crowd, Brett Booth is not just a guest, he is a piece of history. Booth co-created Backlash alongside Jim Lee at Wildstorm Studios and went on to put his pencils on some of the most iconic titles in both Marvel and DC. His work spans Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Teen Titans, The Flash, Nightwing, and Justice League of America. If you have a book you want signed or you just want to talk shop with one of the best artists in the industry, Booth’s booth is a must-stop.
Evan George Vourazeris Is One of Us and He Is Going to Be There
If you caught him on Iris and Grizz in the Morning, you already know Evan George Vourazeris is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. The actor, who was personally hand-picked by Jason Bateman to play Tuck in Netflix’s Ozark (https://www.netflix.com/title/80117552), is an up-and-coming name in Hollywood and a testament to what happens when you refuse to let anything stop you. He will also be serving as a guest judge alongside yours truly at the Taste of El Paso wing competition on April 25th at NEEP Collective. Come say hi at the con and watch out for him, because his star is only going up.
