Pershing Mural Committee lays first of more than 750,000 tiles at new Wyuka Park site

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A 70-year-old mural once displayed outside downtown Lincoln’s historic Pershing Auditorium began its return to the public eye on Monday, as the first of about 800,000 tiles were laid on a massive new concrete wall at Wyuka Park.

For the past five years, several devoted admirers and volunteers have fought to save it from demolition at the Pershing Auditorium, and have since been fundraising, restoring and organizing the thousands of tiles now going up on the wall.

That process included lining up each of the 1-inch-by-1-inch tiles into square sections of 12-by-12 tiles, the first of which was stuck to the wall on Monday…
