University of Missouri expands Springfield campus into four-year medical school

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The University of Missouri School of Medicine is expanding its Springfield campus into a full four-year regional medical school to strengthen health care across Missouri.

The expansion underscores Mizzou’s efforts to address physician shortages and improve access to care across the state.

“This expansion is about more than classrooms and labs. It’s about building a healthier future for every Missourian,” said Richard J. Barohn, executive vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine. “By training more physicians in Springfield, we are investing in communities and ensuring that quality care is within reach for all.”

From clinical site to full campus

The Springfield campus, established in 2016 as a clinical site for third- and fourth-year students, will offer the full medical school curriculum starting in summer 2027.
