SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Ground will be broken on the site of the new men’s prison in Sioux Falls Wednesday.
Avera receives $35 million gift for Children’s Hospital
The new men’s penitentiary will be built on 148 acres in northeast Sioux Falls along Benson Road. The state purchased the land for $12.5 million. The project’s price is capped at $650 million.
The size, location in Sioux Falls and price of the project were decided after a lengthy debate in the Legislature and multiple task forces.
The groundbreaking comes after the state spent about $8 million for a two-160-acre parcel site in Lincoln County between Harrisburg and Canton in 2023. The state has already spend at least $50 million in developing that site…
