Sentencing delayed in Fort Pierce MLK Day shooting; new trial motion filed

ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The sentencing hearing for the man convicted in a deadly Martin Luther King Jr. Day shooting in Fort Pierce has been postponed as his defense seeks a new trial.

Kemmye Parson was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday morning, but that hearing has been delayed after his attorney filed a motion for a new trial. The motion must be heard before sentencing can move forward.

A hearing on the motion is now set for May 19 at 9:30 a.m., according to court records…
