Indiantown hopes School District lowers parcel price

INDIANTOWN – The Village Council here directed staff April 9 to make a counter-offer to the Martin County School District’s appraised $220,000 value for a small piece of land at 15161 S.W. 169th Ave. that city officials want to purchase in order to expand the recreational opportunities in Booker Park and potentially remove its existing structure.

Village Manager Taryn Kryzda introduced the agenda item that evening.

“This piece of property is south of our existing Parks & Recreation offices, where there’s a basketball court and the playground, which is currently being replaced,” she said. “We are making about a $300,000 investment to replace that playground. We reached out to the School District when we realized that building wasn’t being used anymore and asked them if they would be interested in selling it. They told us to get an appraisal. It’s 0.78 of an acre, and the appraisal that came in initially was for $240,000, based on the highest and best use.”…
