TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Santa Rita Park closed in April 2025 for an $8 million makeover funded by Proposition 407, which voters approved in 2018.
A large homeless encampment had to be cleared before construction could start. Neighbors say losing access to the park has been worth it for the peace of mind they have already gained.
“We used to go there with our family dogs and stopped doing that because there were needles around the ground and it was something that you definitely didn’t feel safe,” said Madeleine Golde, a member of Friends of Santa Rita Park. “That’s of course changed since people don’t have access to the park right now.”…
