Fallout from Wisconsin flooding could last ‘for several years’

MILWAUKEE — After a long few days of watching the Wolf River in Outagamie and Waupaca counties climb, at times to record-high levels, some communities are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the flooding.

“We’re starting to see some of that water go down, which is a Godsend,” said Zac Van Asten, the emergency management coordinator for Waupaca County. “These communities have been under water and just struggling to keep everything going, but hopefully we’re starting to see some relief down in Freemont and now the process becomes that of recovery and getting everybody back in their homes.”

While the floodwaters may move downriver and areas of standing water slowly start to disappear, Van Asten said communities’ recovery work tied to these floods will last for months, if not longer…
