Kewaunee residents return home after gas leak scare

KEWAUNEE, Wis. (WFRV) – Kewaunee residents are being allowed back into their homes following a forced evacuation after a piece of machinery ruptured a gas line.

According to a release from the Kewaunee Police Department, sometime Monday night, a piece of machinery slid into a hole, rupturing a gas line near Dodge Street and Rose Street.

Residents within two blocks of the incident were told to shelter in place or be evacuated to the Kewaunee High School. Since the incident occurred, the gas in the area has been shut off, and residents who evacuated are allowed back to their homes.

Officials say this incident showed great coordination between police, WPS, fire, rescue, and emergency services as they all worked to keep everyone safe…
