Lake Conroe’s origin story starts with drought. New marker traces its regional impact.

Lake Conroe, a 21,000-acre recreational landmark that also serves as a functional water source for Houston and surrounding areas, has been recognized with a state-historic marker.

Last week, leaders with the San Jacinto River Authority, operators of the lake, and Montgomery County elected officials gathered just off the Lake Conroe Dam site for the dedication of the new marker.
