New reservoir in northern Colorado starts to fill with water

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project just west of Loveland officially has water flowing after four years of the project being built. The reservoir, once full, will supply water to 12 different municipalities in northern Colorado.

“It basically ranges from Broomfield all the way up to Greeley and kind of everywhere in between,” Chris Manley, the senior water quality policy specialist at Northern Water, said.

The water filling the reservoir now was gathered during the 2024-2025 winter season, where the state saw more moisture compared to the most recent winter. The water was stored in both Granby and Grand Lake before being moved to Chimney Hollow…
