BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — Newly released documents are providing additional insight into the timeline and police response following the shootings of two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses last summer.
Minnesota State Rep. and Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed in their Brooklyn Park home early in the morning of June 14, 2025. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot and injured in their Champlin home earlier that same morning.
The documents, obtained from a data request filed with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, include police and dispatch logs showing when police were first notified of the shootings and their investigation that followed.

2:06 a.m. – Dispatchers received a 911 call from a caller later identified as Hope Hoffman, the daughter of John and Yvette Hoffman. The logs note that Hope said “someone came to door and shot parents … masked parties,” adding, “both parents shot.” A multi-agency response begins by 2:07 a.m. The log notes indicate the suspect “took off,” but it was unknown if the suspect left in a vehicle or on foot…
