Law enforcement agencies in Las Vegas have broken up an alleged multimillion-dollar illegal betting operation following a lengthy investigation that involved federal and state regulators. A 57-year-old local resident, William West Roberts, now faces multiple criminal charges tied to unlicensed gambling activities and suspected financial misconduct.

Tip-Off Sparks Investigation into Multi-Million Betting Ring

The probe carried out by the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the Federal Bureau of Investigation spanned several years. Undercover officers posed as bettors and assisted investigators, along with information provided by a confidential source. The case first came to light after a tip-off from Roberts’ ex-girlfriend, which authorities later confirmed triggered the inquiry, reported The Las Vegas Review-Journal.

According to official reports, the accused made sports wagers possible through an offshore platform believed to be based in Costa Rica. The operation is said to have processed millions of dollars in bets while also moving funds through legitimate-looking businesses, including a fitness center and a betting advisory service.

Authorities claim Robertsmixed proceeds from the illegal venture with income from these businesses, making it hard to trace the true origin of the funds. Financial records failed to justify the scale of his spending and gambling activity. Several banks and casinos flagged irregular transactions and ended their relationships with him due to concerns over suspicious activity.
