Midday Gunfire Rocks Downtown L.A. As Cops Nab Suspect Blocks Away

Midday gunfire rattled downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, sending officers racing toward Main and 7th streets and leaving one person wounded and in the hospital. Police quickly locked down the area, canvassing nearby blocks for witnesses and surveillance video as detectives tried to piece together what sparked the shooting. Officials say the investigation remains very much active.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department said the shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. near Main Street and 7th Street. Officers arrived to find one person suffering from gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rushed the victim to a hospital, and police told CBS Los Angeles that a suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was arrested a short time later near Broadway and 5th Street. No other injuries were reported, according to the department.

The case is being handled by the LAPD’s Central Community Police Station, which patrols the downtown core, according to the LAPD Central Community Police Station. Police have not released the suspect’s name or said whether formal charges have been filed. As is standard, detectives coordinate with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office as the case develops. The station’s public contact listings include a detective desk number where tips can be directed while officers continue their canvass.
