BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – A tradition for the last 36 years continues this May as Governor Spanberger is set to deliver the commencement address for Virginia Tech’s 2026 graduating class.
Since 1990, first-year Virginia Governors have delivered the university’s commencement address. L. Douglas Wilder, George F. Allen, James S. Gilmore III, Mark R. Warner, Timothy M. Kaine, Robert F. McDonnell, Terence “Terry” McAuliffe, Ralph Northam, and Glenn Youngkin have been the most recent speakers. Now, the 75th governor will make her mark at VT as the first female governor.
Virginia Tech says the commencement ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, in Lane Stadium. Remarks from the governor will be preceded by Class Officer Shirin Mohammadian to offer opening remarks.
