Lincoln police impound 128 vehicles in year one of nuisance ordinance

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Lincoln Police Department has released the results of the first year of the Nuisance Vehicle Ordinance, a new law that allows officers to impound vehicles involved in street racing and reckless driving.

Between April 15, 2025, and April 14, 2026, LPD deemed 128 vehicles disorderly and impounded them, with 60% of those impoundments occurring on O Street.

Officers saw the highest number of offenses in May and June, and 57% occurred between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m., with weekends being the busiest.

A first offense can result in the driver’s vehicle being towed and released upon paying a fee. For a second offense, the vehicle can be towed and held for 10 days…
