Buc-ee’s proposal near I-10 in northwest Tallahassee ignites debate over growth pace

A proposed Buc-ee’s travel center in northwest Tallahassee is sparking debate over how quickly the area should grow and what that growth could mean for nearby neighborhoods and businesses.

Plans call for a 75,000-square-foot Buc-ee’s with more than 120 gas pumps near Interstate 10. At a public meeting held today, only a handful of residents attended, but some voiced strong concerns about the scale of the project.

“This is an example of carving up the landscape in the environment to make room for this huge project, which is overkill,” said Ann Bidlingmaier, a Tallahassee resident of more than 50 years…
