Former Monroe County official sues county, alleging retaliation and discrimination

MONROE, Mich. — A longtime Monroe County administrator is suing the county and several elected officials, claiming she was unlawfully fired after exercising her free speech rights and refusing what she described as an “unethical conflict of interest.”

In a federal lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Aundrea Armstrong alleged the county and members of its Board of Commissioners retaliated against her, discriminated against her based on gender, and conspired to end her career in county government.

According to the complaint, Armstrong spent nearly 25 years working for the county, rising through the ranks to become Deputy County Administrator and Chief Financial Officer.
